The TOEFL short for (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is considered by many as the most comprehensive ACADEMIC English test available. It evaluates an individual’s ability to understand and use English in an academic setting. This standardized test is commonly required by colleges and universities in the US for non-native speakers who wish to pursue an undergraduate course in an American university. At the same time, it is a common measure of English proficiency used by numerous business institutions, government agencies, and scholarship programs.   According to ETS, TOEFL is a trademark of the Educational Testing Service (ETS) for more information please visit trademarks owned by ETS.(link:), the TOEFL test is the most widely respected English-language test in the world. It is recognized by more than 9,000 colleges, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries, including Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the United States.   WE checked the minimum scores required in order to be accepted in universities in the United States. For stanford university, the minimum TOEFL score required in order to be considered for admission is in three (3) types of test. The minimum scores required are 250 for the computer-based test, 600 for the paper-based test and 100 for the internet-based test. For more information please see this link. For MIT or Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the minimum required scores are 500 for Paper Based Test (PBT) and 90 for Internet Based Test (iBT). They also have a recommended score which is 600+ and 100+ respectively. According to them the minimums are in place to ensure the level of English proficiency. Technically, MIT offers no English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, and English is the language of MIT. For more information please see this link. To PROVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY, Harvard University has Two (2) requirements. First for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic test, the minimum score is 7.0. Second, the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, minimum score of 68 and finally The Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), minimum score is 100. For them, scores cannot be older than two years and must be sent directly from the testing service. For more information click this link.   We have completed a list for your reference. Note that the minimum scores may change without prior notice. For more accurate and specific details, especially on the minimum scores, you may click on the links provided. The Scores above the minimum are of course required and will increase your chance of being admitted into your preferred university, while scores below the minimum will most likely deny your admittance.   University TOEFL Paper TOEFL iBT Link Notes Adelphi University 550 80 Link   American University 600 100 Link   Andrews University 550 No Link   Arizona State University 500 61 Link Schools of Engineering require 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based).
