Though the origins of the art are unclear, it has widely gained popularity in the western world as a unique way to preserve memories. What type of molding material is provided and how does it work? The molding powder supplied is manufactured in India and is unique to our specifications to My Impression Studio casting kits. You will not find a higher quality molding powder in any retail or pre-assembled casting kit in the market. The exclusive formula includes chromatic (color-changing) properties, which eliminates the need of timing the procedure. When the light yellow powder is added to water, the mixture starts out lavender, turns bright pink while mixing and is ready for molding once it has turned back to the yellow color. The result is a highly detailed, very strong mold. Procedure to Make the Impression: All you need to complete the task is an empty reusable plastic container or similar tub - suitably sized for the hand or foot you are casting. The smaller the hand the smaller the container should be to conserve material. Gloves are not necessary as the dried Alfina peels off very easily. All this is explained properly in the tip sheet so its very straight forward. What type of casting stone/plaster product is supplied with the kits? Gypsum Cement that dries to a pristine white, provides fine detail and is chip & chalk resistant. It has high green strength (such as when demolding), remains workable while wet and gains its full strength once 100% dry. Overall, it is 3-4X stronger than the traditional art plaster or "plaster of Paris." What is 3D hand or foot casting? 3D casting is an art-form where impressions of body parts (mainly hands & feet) of babies, children & adults are taken in a specialized impression mousse/material & 3-Dimensional sculptures are developed from these. Hence 3D casting is a way to replicate your loved ones hands and feet in an exact life-sized replica so that you can treasure them as keepsakes or memories to be cherished over the years. The hand/foot is submerged in the impression material (Alfina), which when first mixed with water for around 1-2 minutes until it sets to a rubbery texture. The limb is then gently removed, leaving the detailed mold of the hand/foot behind. Next casting plaster (White stone) is mixed and poured in to the mold where it will set. Once the plaster is set the Alfina is peeled away revealing the hand/foot in all its glory. Pls. note that with the Air dry clay you will get 2D Impressions and those details of the hand would not be clearly visible. We sell only 3D hand casting kits.
